How to Clean your Deck and Patios with Quick 'n Brite

Quick 'n Brite has been made in Seattle, WA. for the last 70 years. Here in the Pacific Northwest, we usually have a very wet winter and fall, and our decks get covered with moss, dirt and other debris by the time spring rolls around. Cleaning your deck and/or patio is a great way to get your house ready to spend more time outside enjoying the nice weather.

Depending on your local climate, you may not need to clean your decks and patios as often as we do here in Washington State. But no matter what the climate and conditions, weathering will have an effect on your deck over a prolonged period of time, keeping them clean will prolong their life.

How do you clean decking naturally?

One great thing about cleaning your deck and patio with Quick n Brite is the cleaning solution is non-toxic, biodegradable, and has no harsh chemicals, so it is safe for you, your pets and any plants or landscaping that the cleaning spray might get on. You do not have to worry about keeping animals away while you are cleaning, or accidently killing your lawn.

Quick’n Brite Liquid Cleaner, Cleaning Concentrate

Getting Started

  1. To begin the deck cleaning process take your garden hose with nozzle and thoroughly spray your deck down. This will help remove large debris and will also help the Quick 'n Brite cleaner spread evenly.
  2. Next, a “trick of the trade” we like to do is to mix the Quick 'n Brite Solution in a clean lawn or bug sprayer. If your sprayer is not new and has been used before make sure you rinse it thoroughly before adding you QnB solution.
  3. Just Add 2/3 cup of Quick 'n Brite Liquid to 1 gallon of HOT water. Hot water works better to dilute the liquid cleaner and is also more effective for cleaning your deck. If hot water is not easily accessible, water from your garden hose will work as well.
  4. Once your heavy solution is mixed, generously spray your deck or patio with the Quick 'n Brite heavy solution. If your deck has extra heavy dirt or hasn’t been cleaned for several years, then let the solution sit for 10-15 minutes before beginning the next step. With Quick 'n Brite, the longer the solution sits on the surface the better it is going to work and the less scrubbing you will have to do.
  5. After 10-15 minutes use a push broom or stiff brush to brush the surface of the deck. Sometimes it is a good idea to make an extra bucket of cleaner to dip your broom or scrubber in while you are cleaning the deck.  If you have leftover heavy solution, you can dunk your broom into the cleaner to get more cleaning solution onto the deck.  Again, let this sit for another 10-15 minutes then simply use your garden hose to rinse off the deck or patio. You will be pleasantly surprised by the results!
